ABSTRACT:
An isomerization process for lowering the normal paraffin content of a hydrocarbon oil feedstock by contacting the feedstock with a catalyst comprising an intermediate pore size silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieve and at least one Group VIII metal wherein the metal is occluded in the molecular sieve is described. The n-paraffins in the feedstock become isomerized to isoparaffins to form liquid range materials which contribute to a low viscosity, low pour point product in the case of middle distillate and lube oils and high octane in the case of gasoline.
