ABSTRACT:
Alkylated hydroxyaromatic compounds, particularly alkylated phenols such as mesitol and 2,4-xylenol, are selectively ortho-dealkylated by contact at a temperature within the range of about 350.degree.-500.degree. C. with a catalyst comprising a combination of at least one chromium oxide and at least one of the oxides of zinc, iron, magnesium and manganese, with zinc and iron being preferred.
