ABSTRACT:
In a process for preparing a reduced material comprising (a) alumina and/or magnesium aluminate as support material, (b) platinum metal and (c) an iron component, the improvement comprises: (1) treating the reduced composition of matter with an acidic liquid; (2) heating the acid-treated material, and (3) treating the material obtained in step (2) with a reducing gas. The prepared material is used as a catalyst for converting CO and O.sub.2 to CO.sub.2.
