ABSTRACT:
Catalysts or adsorbents having high surface-to-weight ratios prepared by attrition grinding are described. This grinding technique enables materials which have a low surface area-to-weight ratio and hence have lesser activity as catalysts or adsorbents, to acquire a large surface to weight ratio which could not be achieved by chemical precipitation means. Exemplary of these materials are naturally occuring crystalline .alpha.-quartz and manganese doped aluminum oxide.
