ABSTRACT:
A composition of matter comprising hydrotalcite Pt and Fe has been prepared by a process comprising the steps of impregnating hydrotalcite with Pt and Fe, followed by calcining and treatment with a reducing gas. The above composition of matter is used as catalyst in a process for oxidizing CO to CO.sub.2, e.g., in a CO.sub.2 laser. A process for preparing a composition of matter comprises the step of impregnating hydrotalcite with Pt and/or Pd at a pH of at least about 5.
