ABSTRACT:
Catalysts for hydroconversion of heavy oils, particularly those containing Ramsbottom carbon precursors, comprise nickel or cobalt and molybdenum on porous alumina containing 1-3% silica. The catalysts have total pore volume of 0.5 to 1.5 ml/gm with at least 70% of the pore volume in pores of 40-60.ANG. pore radius and with only about 10-35% of the nickel or cobalt in acid extractable form.
