ABSTRACT:
An improved heterogeneous catalyst effective to catalyze the oligomerization of ethylene is formed by hydrogenating bis(.eta..sup.5 -cyclopentadienyl) nickel (nickelocene) onto an omega zeolite support in the presence of a small, but effective amount of a promoter. The promoters are oxides of nickel, iron or copper and mixtures thereof. The catalyst is particularly effective in terms of selectivity and reactivity in catalyzing the formation of 1-butene from ethylene.
