ABSTRACT:
Low rate performance is vastly improved by reducing undesired backscatter sources. Backscatter is eliminated by repositioning some of the backscattered sources to direct any reflected backscatter out of the lasing plane. The case mounted optical elements of a case mounted readout system are positioned such that all of the initial services which are encountered by optical signals are an angle not normal to the optical signal. This positioning causes any reflections off of the aforementioned surfaces to be directed away from the lasing plane that is eliminating the possibility that these reflections will be coupled back into the lasing cavity.
