ABSTRACT:
A case-hardening method for carbon steel useful in the cementation thereof by the solid powder method is provided which involves forming a powder mixture of titanium powder, chromium oxide powder and a catalyst which is a halogenated salt, embedding carbon steel in said powder mixture and subjecting the resultant mixture to a heat treatment to form thereby a carbide hardened layer composed mainly of titanium carbide.
