ABSTRACT:
An ink cartridge has an ink sensor. A printer's control device transmits a detection command and specified detection condition to the cartridge by radio. In response to the detection command, a sensor controller actuates and vibrates the sensor under the specified detection condition. The sensor is attached to a resonance chamber disposed in an ink chamber. The vibration frequency the sensor is regulated by a resonance frequency of the resonance chamber. The resonance frequency is varied by ink in the resonance chamber. Resonance frequency detection specifies the presence or absence of ink in the resonance chamber and so the quantity of ink. The printer's control device receives the detection result with the detection condition from the cartridge, and checks whether detection was performed under the specified detection condition, to verify the detection result's validity.
