ABSTRACT:
A phosphorus free or a low phosphorus containing lubricant composition is provided by formulating the composition with an additive of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently alkyl of 1 to about 7 carbons, aryl, aralkyl or together form an alicyclic or heteroalicyclic radical in which the ring is completed through the nitrogen; X is O or S; a is 1 or 2; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently H, alkyl or aryl; and Z is ##STR2## wherein R.sub.5 is hydrogen, alkyl, or aralkyl, and ##STR3## wherein Y is H, OH, R.sub.6 where R.sub.6 is alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, OR.sub.6, OR.sub.7 --OH, where R.sub.7 is alkylene of 1 to about 7 carbon atoms, and NR.sub.8 R.sub.9 where R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, cycloaliphatic, heteroalicyclic or together form an alicyclic or heteroalicyclic radical in which the ring is completed through the nitrogen; with the proviso that when a is 1, Y is not OR.sub.6.
These additives impart improved extreme pressure and anti-wear properties to lubricant compositions.
