A camshaft assembly16is disclosed for an engine10, along with a method of producing the camshaft16. The camshaft includes a support shaft22that carries in the region of one end26a camshaft element. The camshaft element may comprise a rotation sensor target member24and the support shaft22is preferably a tubular shaft. The camshaft element24is captured onto the support shaft22by deforming a deformation zone46at the end of the support shaft22into a radially extending rivet head28.
