BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Epothilones are macrocyclic lactones with useful antifungal and cytotoxic properties. Their action, as in the case of Taxol

, is based on stabilization of the microtubuli as a result of which especially tumors and other rapidly dividing cells are inhibited.
