ABSTRACT:
A laterally swinging gate adapted for opening with a vehicle comprises a gate frame including stiff longitudinal members (1, 2) and upright end members (3, 4) interconnected and adapted to function as a torsion spring. The gas is pivoted at one end to a first post (16) for pivotal movement about an inclined hinge axis so that the gate is normally urged toward the closed position. At the other end of the gate a pair of second posts (71) support a bumper thrust actuated assembly (62) by which the gate is longitudinally twisted. A latch mechanism (64) releases the gate at a predetermined angle of twist so that it can swing to the open position under spring action. The gate is held in the open position for a predetermined time by a retainer mechanism (60) mounted on the first post (16).
