ABSTRACT:
A universal motor has a brush cage assembly in which a U-shaped clip34is located about a wall of a through hole28of a bearing bracket24for receiving a brush cage30. The clip34has an outer limb42with inwardly and rearwardly directed barbs44to grip an outer surface of the wall to prevent removal of the clip34and an inner limb36with outwardly and forwardly directed barbs42which resiliently deform as the cage30is inserted to snare the cage30should it move in the opposite direction. The clip34thus prevents withdrawal of the brush cage30and provides a lateral spring force against the cage30to reduce cage lateral position tolerance and movement.
