ABSTRACT:
A blowout preventer assembly10includes opposed rams12, 14, each including a rubber or elastomer sealing assembly16, 18, with a plurality of inserts20forming an array22of metal inserts within each sealing assembly. Each insert has an upper body24, a lower body26, and a rib50. Each upper and lower body includes a trailing face36, a radially outward opposite face38and a leading face40. An antiextrusion ledge46minimizes the extrusion gap between the OD of a tubular in the BOP and the leading face of the metal inserts in the array.
