ABSTRACT:
A book making machine comprising casing-in instrumentalities and, optionally, building-in instrumentalities arranged so that the operations required to wrap a book with a cover are effected rectilinearly in succession comprising a cover feeder for delivering covers, one at a time, to a conveyor for movement along a predetermined path and, in succession, a heater for heating the covers, an embosser for embossing the covers to form fold lines, an adhesive-applying device for applying adhesive to the covers, a book feeder for depositing book inserts on the covers, registering devices for registering the inserts with the covers, wrapping devices for wrapping the covers about the inserts, pressure-applying devices for applying pressure to the wrapped inserts and forming devices for forming hinges in the cover panels at the back of the book.
