ABSTRACT:
Body armor of a relatively light and flexible character for protecting the wearer from a high speed projectile, such as a bullet from a handgun or a rifle, and which is capable of not only stopping passage of bullets, but reduce the damage caused by the impact resulting from the bullet trapped within the armor. The armor includes an outer component and an inner component, the outer component, which is designed for flattening and trapping a bullet, may provide the outer part of a garment. An inner component is used in the garment for spreading the impact of the bullet striking the outer part. The inner component may include at least two layers of flexible material having at least one layer of compressible material confined therebetween. The outer component may include a pair of layers of flexible material, at least the inner layer of which is high impact-resistant material, and has at least two juxtaposed, inter-nested layers of hard beads between the flexible layers, each layer being arranged in a close packed lattice pattern.
