Sterile liposome-encapsulated hemoglobin having an oxygen carrying capacity of 20 vol/%, a half life of 15-20 hours as measured in mice, with the liposome made from chloroform, HSPC, cholesterol, negatively charged DMPG and alpha-tocopherol.
