ABSTRACT:
Apparatus for positioning a block which may be used as a charger for a lathe. The apparatus includes opposed primary chucks, each taking the form of a tapered receptacle for receiving the end of a block. The primary chucks are each displaceable in x and y directions extending laterally of a rotation axis, to position a block in an optimum position for peeling veneer therefrom. A secondary chuck is associated with each primary chuck which extensible to grip a block independently of the primary chuck.
