ABSTRACT:
A bleaching starter which contains an imidazole or a primary or secondary amine having a hydroxyalkyl radical as an alkaline agent which exhibits an improved desilvering function without odor and safety problems, the alkaline agent is selected from compounds represented by formulae (I) and (II): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical, and an alkenyl radical, R.sub.5 is a hydroxyalkyl radical having up to 6 carbon atoms, and R.sub.6 is selected from group consisting of a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having up to 6 carbon atoms, and a hydroxyalkyl radical having up to 6 carbon atoms.
