ABSTRACT:
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 includes alkyl, halo, nitro, amino, cyano, alkoxy, and alkoxycarbonyl; R.sup.2 is alkyl and substituted alkyl; and R.sup.3 is OH or NHOH are useful for inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase enzymes in animals, and as such, prevent and treat diseases resulting from the breakdown of connective tissues.
