ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to the production of borate-based or silicate-based glasses containing copper which are operable as biocidal additives in marine anti-fouling coatings. Zinc and/or tin may be substituted for a portion of the copper or, if present in combination at high loadings, may be substituted in total for the copper. When dispersed in the standard film forming binders employed in marine paints, the rate of solution of the metal ion in salt water is in excess of 10 mg/m.sup.2 /day.
