ABSTRACT:
A shift control device includes a movable member having a cable support for supporting the transmission cable, wherein the movable member moves as the shifting device actuates the transmission. An assist spring is provided for biasing the movable member in a direction opposite a direction of biasing of the movable member by the return spring of the transmission. The cable support supports the transmission cable such that tension exerted by the assist spring on the transmission cable remains substantially constant regardless of a position of the movable member as the shifting device actuates the transmission. In a more specific embodiment, the cable support moves the transmission cable in a straight line, and the cable support may move the transmission cable without winding the transmission cable about the cable support.
