BRIEF SUMMARY
The present invention relates to novel benzylhydroxylamines of the general formula I ##STR2## in which the variables have the following meanings: X is --N(R.sup.7)--O-- which can be bonded to R.sup.8 via oxygen or nitrogen; -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfinyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfonyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -cycloalkyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl)carbonyl, (C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl)carbonyl, (C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl)carbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy)carbonyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkenyloxy)carbonyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 -alkynyloxy)carbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylthio)carbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylcarbamoyl, it optionally being possible for each of the last-mentioned 14 radicals to have attached to it one to three substituents in each case selected from the group consisting of -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylthio, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl)carbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl) carbonyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfinyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylideneaminoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylcarbamoyl, phenyl rings to be unsubstituted or to have attached to them one to three substituents, in each case selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, three hetero atoms, selected from the group consisting of two oxygen atoms, two sulfur atoms and 3 nitrogen atoms, it being possible for the heterocycle to be saturated, partially or fully unsaturated or aromatic, and, if desired, to have attached to it one to three substituents, in each case selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl and (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl)carbonyl, --N(R.sup.9)R.sup.10, phenylsulfonyl or phenylcarbamoyl, it being possible for these 4 radicals to be unsubstituted or to have attached to them one to three substituents, in each case selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, it optionally being possible for each of the last-mentioned 5 radicals to have attached to it one to three substituents, in each case selected from the group consisting of -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfinyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylsulfonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkylideneaminoxy, phenyl rings to be unsubstituted or to have attached to them one to three substituents, in each case selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, three hetero atoms, selected from the group consisting of two oxygen atoms, two sulfur atoms and 3 nitrogen atoms, it being possible for the heterocycle to be saturated, partially or fully unsaturated or aromatic, and, if desired, to have attached to it one to three substituents, in each case selected from the group consisting of halogen, nitro, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl and (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl)carbonyl, --N(R.sup.11)R.sup.12 ; -C.sub.6 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 -cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkoxy)carbonyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, phenyl or phenyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl, it being possible for the phenyl group and the phenyl ring of the phenylalkyl group
