A herbicidal substituted benzoxazolinones of the formula ##STR1## in which: R is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, carboxyalkoxy, alkoxycarbonylalkoxy, alkoxyalkoxy, cyanoalkoxy, haloalkysulphonylamino, alkysulphonylamino, alkoxycarbonyl, haloalkyl, halogen, nitro, carboxy, carboxyalkyl, hydroxy, benzyloxy and cyano;
