ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to benzothiazepine derivatives of the general formula ##STR1## where Y is hydrogen, a CHR.sub.3 --COOR.sub.1 group, an alkanoyl group or a --COO(CH.sub.2).sub.n R.sub.4 group where R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group, R.sub.3 is hydrogen, an alkyl group, an alkylphenyl group or an aryl-lower alkyl group, R.sub.4 is an aryl group and n is a whole number of 1 to 10, and to their method of preparation.
The benzothiazepine derivatives of this invention, including their salts, have an inhibitory effect on the angiotensin converting enzyme and are useful as raw materials or intermediates for the synthesis of antihypertensive agents and as intermediates for the manufacture of other drugs, agricultural chemicals and industrial chemicals.
