Benzoic acids of the general formula I ##STR1## in which R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and Y have the meanings as mentioned in the following, and which in the form of the free compounds or in the form of the physiologically tolerated salts and esters possess valuable pharmacological properties, processes for preparing them, pharmaceutical preparations containing them, and their use as or in medicaments.
