A beam recorder comprises image signal input means, a modulator for modulating a recording beam in accordance with the input image signal, and a discriminator for discriminating a characteristic of the input image signal. The modulator controls a driving current for emitting the beam so that the beam intensity is varied in accordance with the discrimination result.
