A separator capable of inhibiting the self-discharge of a battery.The separator is a battery separator obtained by applying a polymer having in the molecule a carbodiimide unit represented by the following formula (I):in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?—[—R—N═C═N—]n—  (I)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?(wherein R means an organic group and n means an integer of 1 to 10,000) to a porous sheet substrate.
