ABSTRACT:
A reusable automatic lancet device having a removable finger rest with an opening for passing the lancet needle to prick a patient's finger below the finger rest. A pivoted arm which holds the lancet needle is locked in a cocked position before the finger rest is inserted and it is released in response to upward pressure of the patient's finger against the finger rest after its insertion. The locking mechanism for the arm includes a pivoted pressure lever with upstanding segments at the back to engage the cocked arm and a slot open at the front to receive the finger rest, an ejector slidably mounted on the pressure lever and holding it locked against movement until the finger rest is inserted, an ejector lock bar slidably and pivotally mounted behind the ejector and having an upstanding segment at the back to engage the cocked arm, a pivoted ejector lock arm overlying the pressure lever and cooperating with the ejector, and a plastic spring biasing the ejector lock arm downward and providing a limit stop for the arm when it is released from its cocked position.
