ABSTRACT:
A communication system, such as an ATM network, is disclosed having a multiplexing device formed by a plurality of access terminals for users who have cells to be transmitted at a certain rate, and at least one connecting terminal. An allocation circuit determines, at a current date, the supply of a cell (called chosen cell) to the connecting terminal. The allocation circuit includes a circuit for producing a first destination identifier (VP), a theoretical date determining circuit, a tree circuit, a sub-tree circuit, a root date determining circuit, and an extracting circuit. The theoretical date determining circuit is for determining a theoretical date for the transmission of the available cells of each service circuit as a function of the rate. The tree circuit is for presenting "leaves" for receiving the theoretical dates for each service circuit, a root for containing dates called root dates, on the basis of which dates a date called priority date is established from the theoretical dates, and nodes connecting said leaves to said root. The sub-tree circuit is for selecting leaves from the leaves of the tree circuit in response to the first destination identifier, and for creating a partition in the first destination identifier. The root date determining circuit is for determining at least one root date in said partition. The extracting circuit is for determining the chosen cell based upon the root dates.
