ABSTRACT:
A water closet cover or seat is automatically pushed out of an upright, open condition when a flush handle of that water cloest is operated to flush the water closet. The cover or seat is moved under the influence of a torsion spring and under the influence of gravity towards a bowl covering position, with a shock absorber exerting retarding force on the cover or seat to prevent that cover or seat from slamming against the rim of the bowl. The shock absorber is connected to a shaft of a hinge unit connecting the cover or seat to the bowl by a direct connection or by cam and cam follower.
