The present invention relates to articles, preferably disposable absorbent articles like sanitary napkins and pantiliners, which comprise a chitosan material and an anionic absorbent gelling material. Such disposable absorbent articles deliver improved odor control performance and improved fluid handling properties/absorption performance, especially in case of electrolytes-containing fluids like menses.
