ABSTRACT:
Vinyl esters, such as vinyl acetate, are copolymerized, especially with ethylene or maleate or fumarate diester, to provide adhesives which develop water resistance through cure by including in the copolymer at least 0.5% of an N-methylol functional monoethylenic amide monomer etherified with a C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 volatile, alcohol. The monomers are stabilized during the copolymerization by an hydroxy functional protective colloid.
