ABSTRACT:
Hydrophilic colloid compositions are described which may form part of a light-sensitive silver halide element, the said compositions comprising a dihalo- or trihalo-ethylcarbonate of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is halogen, X' is halogen or hydrogen and each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are an alkyl or aryl group, in order to inhibit growth of bacteria and fungi, to protect the hydrophilic colloid against degeneration and/or to improve the stability of dispersed photographic ingredients.
