ABSTRACT:
Conical tubes stored in a nested stack are separated one-by-one for supply to an associated textile machine or the like by a separating apparatus having two gripping ring assemblies arranged to respectively surround the last-nested and penultimate tubes of the stack, the gripping ring assemblies being arranged for relative rotation in opposite directions and relative axial movement to separate the respective tubes, each gripping ring assembly including a plurality of gripping elements pivotably movable radially into and out of peripheral gripping engagement with the respective tubes in the manner of a ratchet brake, the gripping elements being arranged to exert an increasing force of gripping engagement with the respective tubes until relative rotation thereof occurs.
