ABSTRACT:
An apparatus and method of drying a transformer by applying current to a winding thereof in a controlled fashion. Alternating with periods of applying the current to the winding, the electrical resistance of the winding is periodically measured using a bridge circuit. The application of the current is controlled, dependent on the results of the resistance measurements, to discontinue the application of current when the measured resistance is equal to or greater than a preset resistance. The current application is resumed when the measured resistance falls below the preset resistance. In a preferred form insulation resistance is tested by measuring leakage current after each measurement of winding resistance and when leakage resistance reaches an acceptable level the apparatus is shut down.
