ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to a device and method for effectively removing contaminants from fine grained soils, clay silt and sediment particles.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a device for removing contaminants from soil, clay and sediment particles as may be found in areas contaminated by industrial chemicals, oils and the like. The device uses liquid to effectively remove contaminants from the surface of the soil particle. The device creates a zone of extreme turbulence by means of opposing high pressure jets of liquid directed at a single point. A slurry inlet device which injects a slurry of contaminated soil into the area where of the discharge from the nozzle devices. Contaminants are removed from the soil particles in the slurry as they pass through the intersection zone of the discharge from the water jets and the nozzles. By this means, the contaminants are separated from the surface of the soil particle. This leaves a substantially contaminant-free fraction of particles, and the contaminants can then be separated from the liquid by means well known in the art.
