ABSTRACT:
A cache circuit for simultaneously accessing split lines in a cache. Data is stored in sequentially adjoining cache lines. A split line access is required to access a data request that crosses a boundary between two cache lines. The address is decoded in parallel in a directory decoder and in a data array decoder to select a cache line. The directory decoder selects a first directory line and a sequentially following second directory line. The tags in the two directory lines are compared with a tag field, and validity is also determined. Meanwhile a data line in a data array is accessed by the data decoder. If a straight line access is required then the output bitlines include all bytes in the selected cache line. If a split line access is required, the output bitlines include an upper portion of the bytes in the selected data line and a lower portion of an adjoining, sequentially following data line.
