ABSTRACT:
An anvil assembly for use with a circular surgical stapler is disclosed. The anvil assembly includes an anvil body, an anvil disposed around the anvil body and engaged therewith, and a tether line having a first end connected to the anvil body and a second end connected to the anvil. The anvil assembly is configured so that upon completion of the stapling operation, the anvil is disengaged from the anvil body, rotated, and withdrawn from the patient via the tether line. A method of using the anvil assembly is also disclosed.
