Substances which are subject to microbial spoilage are preserved by addition of a cinnamyl phenol, e.g., 2-cinnamylphenol, 4-cinnamyl phenol, 2-methoxy-4-cinnamyl-phenol, 2-cinnamyl-5-methoxy-quinol, etc.
