An animal halter102has a muzzle loop104adapted to fit over the upper and lower jaws of an animal such as a dog. The animal halter102also comprises a collar loop108for attachment around the neck of the dog. The halter102is formed from a single piece of fabric looped in a figure of eight configuration and threaded through forward control ring116and a second ring117.Second ring117has a smaller diameter than forward control ring116to prevent the forward control ring116from passing through the second ring117.When an animal to which the halter is attached pulls on the halter against a lead, rings116and117tend to lock the halter fabric therebetween such that the respective sizes of the muzzle loop104and collar loop108do not change.
