Salts of polymaleic acids, having molecular weights of from 200 to 1,500, with amines, of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and each is hydrogen, C.sub.9 -C.sub.20 -alkyl or C.sub.9 -C.sub.20 -alkenyl and R.sup.3 is C.sub.9 -C.sub.20 -alkyl or C.sub.9 -C.sub.20 -alkenyl.
