ABSTRACT:
Fused tetracyclic benzodiazepines of the formula (I): ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is a cyclic amine such as 1-piperazine and R.sup.2 is H or a substituent as defined herein are useful as antiovulatory and contragestational agents. Also, methods for their synthesis, intermediates used in such synthesis, methods for use as medicaments and pharmaceutical compositions are described.
