Fiber grade resin, fiber obtained therefrom, and fiber-containing articles wherein the resin comprises an amide-imide polymer having repeating units of the following general formula: ##STR1## said resin having an inherent viscosity of from about 0.3 to about 1.3 dl/g; an M.sub.n of at least about 5000 g/mole; a ratio of M.sub.w /M.sub.n in the range of from about 1.7 to about 3.3; and a ratio of M.sub.z /M.sub.w of not greater than about 2.3
