ABSTRACT:
An aluminothermic reduction reaction mixture consisting essentially of an admixture of manganese dioxide (MnO.sub.2) and metallic aluminum (Al) with alumina (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3) added thereto. The reaction does not yield a metallic phase, but produces a single phase comprising a galaxite containing slag.
