ABSTRACT:
An alloy steel is provided containing, by weight percent, carbon 0.5-1.1, manganese 0.10-<0.50, silicon 0.10-<0.80, chromium 3.5-5.0, molybdenum 2.5-5.0, vanadium 0.5-2.0, cobalt 0.5-4.0, columbium 0.15-0.50, up to 0.10 aluminum and the balance iron except for incidental impurities. The alloy can be balanced to provide a minimum room temperature hardness of R.sub.c 60 with outstanding toughness and ductility or to provide a minimum room temperature hardness of R.sub.c 63 with good wear resistance and toughness.
