ABSTRACT:
A process for selective propylation of the benzene content of hydrocarbon mixtures wherein the mixture is brought into contact with propylene in the presence of a crystalline zeolite catalyst having a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least about 12 and a constraint index of from 1 to 12, to produce isopropylbenzene and diisopropylbenzene. The reaction may be carried out at temperatures of from about 100.degree. C. to the critical temperature of the benzene and at pressures ranging between about 10.sup.5 N/m.sup.2 and 6.times.10.sup.6 N/m.sup.2.
