ABSTRACT:
Benzene compounds are successfully alkylated with detergent range olefins with a very active and very selective catalyst prepared by impregnating a 70-90% silica support with a tungsten salt, calcining the impregnated material and subsequently activating the catalyst in a neutral or reducing atmosphere at a temperature ranging from about 200.degree. C. to about 350.degree. C.
